Phuket abounds with interesting activities, on and off the beaches, for all ages and interests. Following is a list of the major activities available on the island.

Diving

Phuket is considered to be among the top 10 scuba diving destinations in the world.

It boasts of crystal clear water, spectacular reefs and rock formations plus a colourful selection of marine life. Some highlights include: underwater visibility often exceeding 30 metres; water sufficiently warm to make wetsuits unnecessary; hundreds of varieties of hard corals and hundreds of species of reef fish, as well as giant whale sharks and manta ray.

Yachting and Boating

Phuket is THE base for sailing the Andaman Sea, and there are few places on Earth which compare to the Andaman Sea when it comes to sailing.

The Andaman Sea will always be Thailand’s reigning maritime jewel. Here we find some of the most beautiful islands and beaches in the region, crystal clear waters and stunning geography.The waters off Phuket have become famous as host to one of the world’s best-loved regattas, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta held in early December.

Fishing

Phuket is achieving international recognition as a major player in the gamefishing world.

As Phuket's gamefishing industry is still in its infancy, there is an abundance of gamefish to be found in the region. Mangrove estuaries and shallow island reefs are home to numerous species of light-tackle gamefish including sea bass, barracuda, giant trevally, queenfish and mangrove jack. Farther out in the deeper waters of the Andaman Sea roam a multitude of blue-water, pelagic species.

Other Water Sports

Besides boating and fishing, there are many more watersports available in Phuket.

These include sea canoeing. The hong, or "rooms", of Phang Nga Bay and Krabi are collapsed cave systems accessible only in tough, purpose-designed inflatable canoes through sea-caves at low tide. Surfing has also become popular during the monsoon season, when conditions are at their prime. Swimming, snorkelling, dinghy and catamaran sailing, windsurfing, jet skis, water-skiing and para-sailing can all be enjoyed on most of Phuket.

Land Sports

Phuket has other activities to enjoy out of the water. Some of these are listed below.

Phuket has four fine golf courses, all of which have been designed to take full advantage of the island's tropical trees and abundant water. Bungy Jumping also available - on the road leading from Patong to Phuket Town through Kathu, look for Jungle Bungy Jump. Go-Karts are also available in several areas. Mountain Biking is also pupular owing to the existence of well-surfaced roads that wind through scenic hills, green jungle and plantations. Rock Climbing and Abseiling have also become pupular here.

Spa and Massage

In the last decade, Phuket has put itself on the map as one of the world's premier tourist destinations. It's reputation as a spa haven has only added to its popularity.

There are many local herbal steam saunas on the Island, as well as several up-market spas and health resorts. Most notable of these is the Banyan Tree Spa. This luxurious spa resort opened in 1994 and was the benchmark for new spa centres on the island to aspire to. Children's Activities

Phuket offers many activities for children including many special clubs and outings organised by many of the hotels.

Thailand is a very safe place for kids of all ages and most of the major hotels have facilities and activities geared to kids. The Laguna Phuket resort at Bang Tao Beach and Le Meridien Phuket both offer extensive activities and programs for children.
